Local college star to do draft workout with Mavericks

The Mavericks are not one of the teams going all-out in draft analysis in the last two weeks before the NBA draft. After the Rajon Rondo trade, the Mavs only have a second-round pick to work with this year.

There are a number of options for the Mavs in the second round. But one local college star tweeted out Monday night that he will be working out for the Mavs in the near future -- SMU point guard Nic Moore.

Moore, who graduated from SMU last month, played a huge role in the Mustangs' resurgence under Larry Brown. Moore won back-to-back American Conference Player of the Year awards. He averaged 16.1 points and 5.2 assists per game as a senior, both marks leading the AAC. He is known as a high-IQ player who can run an offense while scoring with the best of them.

If there is a hold up on Moore in the upcoming draft, it is that he is only 5-foot-9 and there are questions about how his game at that height would translate to the NBA game. But with 5-foot-9 Isaiah Thomas making the Eastern Conference All-Star team this past season, there are ways for guards Moore's size to succeed at the next level.
